Why we do what we do // professional family portrait photography

When I first became a mum, I was struck with how quickly time passed. Way quicker than I thought it did before. Maybe it’s because you have this person growing before your eyes, and it just seems quicker because they change so much in so many ways that you actually notice the passing of time. Maybe it’s just because you suddenly have so much more to do in every day. Whatever it is, it’s startling. I wanted to freeze time because even though the nights felt so, so painfully long, the moments of wonder and joy and ALIVENESS in my days were just so stunning and like nothing I’d ever felt before.

When we’re young, some of us want to go out and do amazing things in the world. Be writers and politicians and entertainers… the ones who will change the world and leave a legacy behind.

But most of us never do those things. We live ordinary lives and we don’t change the world.

For most of us, our relationships, our children and our family are the things we’re most proud of. They’re our legacy.

Photographs are the best way of telling the stories of our lives. They connect us to other people’s lives, through their meaning. They make sure what matters most lives on forever through our descendants. They keep our ‘every day’ moments alive. And those every day moments are sometimes the most extraordinary and powerful moments of all them.
