Heartstory is a local Canberra photography business owned by two award winning Australian portrait photographers with 35+ years combined professional experience. The principle photographers Katie Kolenberg and Jeremy Byrnes have won Australian Family Photographer of the Year in 2015, 2017 and 2023, as well as ACT Family Photographer of the Year in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
By booking a photography experience with Heartstory, you are putting yourself in the safe hands of a team who are passionate and dedicated to their craft and the families they service.
The Heartstory photography experience is made up of 3 stages:
- a consultation over the phone to plan your session;
- your photography session; and
- your personal in studio purchasing appointment.

The Heartstory photography experience covers family sessions of all kinds including those with pets, extended family groups, couples, maternity & newborn photography, baby & child portraits, and special occasion sessions, such as when everyone comes into town for an important birthday or anniversary. We can arrange your session to take place in our modern studio in Belconnen, outdoors or at a specific requested location such as your home or rural property.
We also offer business portrait photography and wedding photography.
Outdoor & location sessions
- Outdoors sessions, for families and couples of all ages, including extended family sessions, and don’t forget your pets!
- River & adventure sessions, for families of all ages who want an active session.
- ‘At your property’ sessions, for rural families on properties in and around Canberra.
- ‘At home’ sessions, for families who want something super personal.
- Extended family sessions, for special occasions or just because.
Studio sessions
- Maternity sessions, for solos, couples and families expecting a baby.
- Newborn sessions, for families with a newborn up to 6 weeks of age.
- Baby sessions, for families with a baby or young toddler up to around 2 years old.
- Creative sessions, for individuals, couples and families (of all ages) with a bold vision
- Family sessions, for families of any age (up to 8 people in total)
- Small, well-behaved pets are welcome in the studio too.

We are a print-focused studio, which means we pour our hearts into stunning customised photographic artwork that puts your professional photos front and centre in your life so you can enjoy them every day. We are able to create one-of-a-kind unique artworks that give humble homes extra personality and become stunning features in architecturally designed homes as well. Most of our clients invest in prints, wall art, books and albums and of course we also offer digital files!
