I spent a week in Bali in July 1999, and I’ve been wanting to go back ever since. So when an opportunity came up to attend a ‘conference’ for creatives being held in Bali, I seized it.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you would know that I’m a dream follower, a heart listener, a rule breaker, an insatiable romantic, and a passionate believer in the power of the individual to create and do extraordinary things. I’ve always known that this life has so much more to give us than what we seem to settle for. (And if you didn’t know these things about me, you do now!)
The WhatIf Conference, run by Jen & Steve Bebb, was a perfect fit for me, and the fact that I really didn’t know what to expect or what was going to happen, only made it feel more right for me to be there. The conference was full of photographers, but had nothing to do with photography. It was about making a richer and more fulfilling life. It was about taking risks. It was about doing more. It was truly wonderful. And the fact that we got to experience something so uplifting and inspiring in such a beautiful country only made it more magical and unforgettable.
I can’t say more in my own words because I’d be writing all night, so I want to throw out a few gems from the amazing innovators we got to spend time with during the conference (Richie Norton, Natalie Norton, Tamara Lackey, Jason & Brian from GFDA, and David duChemin), and then leave you with a trail of images from my week.
Courage is an act of will in the face of fear.
Risk everything. Expect nothing. Prepare for anything.
Lean in to stupid.
Awareness is freedom.
