The Heartstory family portrait experience
Having your family photographed is a celebration of you—your story, the love you share and your ‘right now’.
Jeremy Byrnes and Katie Kolenberg (the owners and principal photographers at Heartstory, est. 2009) are award winning family portrait specialists and two of the most experienced family photographers in the region. Together with a small team of photographers and customer care staff, they provide an unrivalled experience for families in Canberra and surrounding NSW regions.
Heartstory photographers shoot on location around Canberra, and in the beautiful Belconnen studio. They are known for how they connect with children and babies, their fun and honest approach to capturing families, their use of the natural environment and our creative vision. Heartstory provides personal, customised service and unique heirloom products, for every taste and budget.
1. The consultation
Over the phone. We get to know you, find out your hopes and wishes for your photos, and discuss things like location and styling.
2. The session
On location, in studio or at your home/property. You have an absolute blast being photographed by us and we capture all the magic.
3. The purchasing appointment
At our studio in Belconnen. You come for a personal appointment. Your decision-making game is strong. We create beautiful artwork for you to keep forever.

Pricing & products
This product is a ‘starter package’. You will need to spend additional funds to buy the prints and products of your choice.
We want you to feel safe and looked after during your experience with us, therefore we take full liability for the creation of your portrait collection. Aside from the purchase of your Family Photo Starter Package, no decisions, commitment or payment is required from you until your purchasing appointment. And, if you don’t love your photos, you don’t have to buy any!
We believe that professional portraits deserve pride of place in your home, so we have spent many years perfecting our product range to suit modern tastes, lifestyles and budgets. You can choose from prints, wall art, and albums, and digital files can be included in your order too!
- Matted prints start at $795 for a set of four 8×10″ prints
- Framed wall art starts at $695
- Framed wall art with multiple images in it starts at $895
- Digital packages start at $1000 and digital files are complimentary in artwork packages over $1500
- Customised wall collections with 3-4 individual pieces start at $2495.
Families typically invest $800 to $3000 on their portrait collection. Payment plans are available.

Outdoors sessions
We photograph all over Canberra (we have different favourite locations in different seasons), taking advantage of our beautiful city and it's environmental features. Sessions are available morning and afternoon/evening on most weekends and some weekdays. We are usually booked out 1-2 months in advance.
Studio sessions
Studio sessions are available on weekdays and weekends at times that suit your little ones' routines. The studio is recommended for newborns and babies under one, but it's also great for older kids and families who prefer the indoors. We use natural light only, and our studio space is nature inspired, light and airy and a bit boho. We encourage relaxed clothing, like our approach!
Our creative style
We care a lot about emotion, personality and capturing you ‘in the moment’. We direct you during your session, but we don’t really ‘pose’ you. We want you to look real and for your photos to be an honest reflection of who you are! We also capture in between moments, environmental scenes and a lot of candid fun. We always take our cues from the smallest people in the family, and we work quite quickly to create a rich and diverse collection of images for you to choose from.
Most families say ‘I knew they’d be good, but I didn’t think they’d be this good.’
A few important things to note
- This is not available for currently booked sessions, or sessions that are pending a reschedule.
- Only one Family Photo Starter Package can be used per family, because it includes a family portrait session.
- This package may only be used for the exact items outlined in this offer and may not be transferred to, or combined with any other package, promotion, prize or gift certificate.
- Cannot be used for special projects (eg, Babies in Bonnets, Canberra Kids).
- Must be used by 31/12/2023. Extensions may be granted on a case by case basis for reasons such as availability.
- All sales are final and no refunds will be given under any circumstances.
- This product is sold as an electronic gift certificate and will be emailed to you within 2 days of purchase, together with information on how to book.
