A guide for taking care of your Heartstory artwork
Our beautiful, handmade products are designed and carefully made to last a lifetime. Not just your lifetime, but that of your future generations too.
To ensure your artwork does stand the test of time and looks its best in your home, there are a few important care factors to keep in mind.
Frames & Wall Art
VISUAL: Where to hang (this beautiful artwork)?
- For an average height person, your eyes should comfortably look directly forwards to the centre of the image without looking up or down.
- Keep out of direct sunlight and ensure your artwork is in a dry location (ie don’t hang in kitchens or bathrooms as the archival qualities of the materials could be impacted by the moisture).
- Consider spacing between multiple frames: approx 10cm is ideal. You want a collection of frames to look like they belong together, but they shouldn’t crowd one another.
- Don’t hang in a tight space, where the edges of the frame are very close (ie, less than 20cm) from a doorway, window frame, light fitting or corner.
MECHANICS: How to hang (this beautiful artwork)?
Best options for gyprock
- Permanent: Use ‘wall mates’ with screws (unless there is a batton in the position you’d like to use)
- Non-permanent: Command removable sticky hangers (rule of thumb is to use double the strength of it’s weight recommendation and don’t rely on one hook).
Best options for hard wall
- Wood – Use either nails, hanging hooks with nails, or screws.
- Brick/Mortar – Either small hole only big enough for a hanging nail, or a bigger hole with a wall plug and screw.
Or if you need a non-permanent option, you can use the ‘Command’ removable wall hanging options (see second point in gyprock option above).
Books & Prints
Our images are printed on the highest quality paper stock and acid free, archival materials. This means they will last indefinitely, as long as you follow some simple care instructions.
Do's
- Like wall art, it’s best to keep these in a dry space, out of direct sun. Moisture and sunlight will negatively affect your artwork.
- Keep books in an upright position on a bookshelf where they can be supported (not allowed to lean).
- When displaying matted prints, put them straight into a frame with either glass or acrylic protecting the image (as they can be easily damaged without protection). If you have a box set of matted prints and you don’t want to display all of them at the same time, keep the rest in the box they came in.
Dont's
Books and albums
- We don’t recommend standing books and albums on easels as they can corrupt the integrity of the spine. Eventually they will sag, and your pages will start to bow (besides the danger of moisture or anything else landing on the pages).
- It should go without saying, but wash your hands and be careful with food and drinks when you’re looking at books and albums. Canvas covers can be wiped clean, but linen and paper is not forgiving.
Matted or loose prints
- Don’t display them without a frame. The paper your images are printed on will be exposed to the elements and without the support of a frame, there is a chance the matt will warp.
If you have any issues with your artwork, we are here to help. Let’s be real, life happens – especially when there are little people about!
Enjoy!
